Volunteer with Mumbai’s leading LGBTQ advocacy organisation

Despite the Supreme Court’s 2018 decision to decriminalize the act of homosexual intercourse, many members of the LGBTQ community in India continue to experience violent attacks, harassment, and discrimination.

Founded in 1994, the Humsafar Trust (HST) is a nonprofit organisation working to conduct networking and advocacy on behalf on the queer community in Mumbai and the surrounding area.

Through grassroots activism efforts, workshops, and collaborations with other organisations and government agencies, HST has thus far reached over 100,000 LGBTQ people in India, distributed roughly 700,000 condoms, and provided tens of thousands of HIV testings, screenings, and treatments in in-house clinics and hospitals.

Recently, HST opened India’s first HIV treatment and clinic (in Mumbai), which constitutes a significant milestone for both the country and for the organisation itself - following over two decades of tireless advocacy work to increase HIV/AIDS awareness and treatment.

HST also conduct various workshops for health care provides, law enforcement agencies, judiciary, legislators, politicians and political parties, Government bodies, media, and student communities - where they provide education on LGBTQ issues.

If you’re in the Mumbai area, please visit HST’s website to learn about job, internship, and volunteer options.
